Deadline is reporting that Mark Wahlberg and David O. Russell have chosen Jennifer Lawrence to star in the pair’s “The Fighter” followup, “The Silver Linings Playbook.”
Based on a novel by Matthew Quick, it’s the story of a clinically depressed man who is released from a mental hospital after a number of years, who, according to the writer’s website, “formulates a theory about silver linings: he believes his life is a movie produced by God, his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife Nikki.”
Lawrence would play Tiffany, the very attractive widowed wife of his best friend Ronnie. She begins to secretly pursue and mentor him as the two work to put their lives back together. It’s a role that has been hotly contested, with stars such as Elizabeth Banks, Kirsten Dunst, Blake Lively, Rooney Mara, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Riseborough and Olivia Wilde reportedly gunning for the job.
