Jennifer Lawrence was announced as a contender for the Oscars in the category for Best Actress for her role as Tiffany in the Silver Linings Playbook. Check who she up against bellow, and the video of the nominations announcement above. Silver Linings Playbook also scored big with the Academy gathering  7 nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. See the full list here.

BEST ACTRESS:
Jessica Chastain – Zero Dark Thirty
Jennifer Lawrence – Silver Linings Playbook
Emmanuelle Riva – Amour
Quvenzhané Wallis – Beasts of the Southern Wild
Naomi Watts – The Impossible

This is Jennifer’s second nomination being the first in 2011 for her role in Winter’s Bone, unfortunately she lost to Natalie Portman. This year we will all be rooting for her. Read her reaction to the nomination:

I was having a sleep over with my parents and I was asleep when they came into my room and told me what happened, I’m so honored and grateful for this nomination and to be in the company of such talented actresses. Having the fortunate opportunity to work with David O. Russell was an extraordinary gift, and I am so thrilled for my fellow cast members Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver who are all nothing short of amazing. This was a labor of love that we all poured our hearts into and could not be more thankful to The Weinstein Company and Harvey Weinstein for their unyielding support of the film. I thought I would wake up, but I didn’t. My parents spent the night at my house, and they came in and kissed me on the forehead and told me about all the nominations for Silver Linings, I went into this because of David [O. Russell]. I’ve seen everything he’s ever done. And I was so blown away by Bradley [Cooper] and the rest of the cast.

NME: The official title for the sequel to 2011′s X Men: First Class has been confirmed! The follow-up will be called Days Of Future Past in reference to a storyline that appeared across two X-Men comic books from 1981. Announcing the title, franchise producer Bryan Singer revealed that that the film “deals with aspects of that comic [storyline], but also some very new things”.

In an interview with IGN, Singer also called the sequel “very ambitious” and revealed that it is expected to begin shooting “in a few months”. He also let slip that the script is “being written right now”.

Discussing the potential scope of the sequel, Singer added: “I think there’s a strong desire to broaden out the universe. I mean, the X-Men universe is every bit as big on its own as big as the Marvel universe. I think it’s time to reach out and explore it and perhaps even bring some connectivity between the films, as Marvel’s done so well. So you may see some of that, I don’t know.”

In July, Singer’s fellow producer Steve Kinberg revealed that the X-Men: First Class sequel will be “a bigger movie than the last”. “I think it is as dramatic as that movie, but more epic [and] mythic in a way as well,” he said at the time.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past will be directed by Matthew Vaughn, who also helmed 2011′s First Class. The sequel has a scheduled release date of July 18, 2014. It is expected to focus on Michael Fassbender’s villainous Magneto character, with Fassbender and co-stars James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence all confirmed for the follow-up.

The Hollywood studio that released “The Hunger Games” announced a timetable for the final two films in the series on Tuesday, which has reignited a rumor that’s been circulating around the Internet for more than a month: That the second film, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” will be filmed on Kauai. Media reports say Lionsgate plans to release “Catching Fire” on Nov. 21, 2013, followed by the two films, based on Suzanne Collins’ third novel “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay,” in 2014 and 2015.

The Hollywood reporter reports that the first “Hunger Games” movie grossed $678.2 million worldwide, becoming an instant big-screen franchise.

Kauai had a banner year for film production in 2010 with the filming of “The Descendants,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Just Go With It” and “Soul Surfer.”

But the Garden Isle is still waiting for its next closeup.

Kauai Film Commissioner Art Umezu says he can’t say whether “Catching Fire” will be filmed there, mainly because he doesn’t know.

But he did escort a Los Angeles-based production team scouting locations around the island a couple of months ago. While they didn’t say what movie they were scouting, numerous reports say Kauai is the top choice for the first sequel. The first “Hunger Games” movie was filmed in North Carolina.

A production of that scale would have a great impact on Kauai’s economy, from providing jobs to workers in the industry to the business generated by visiting film crews for local merchants, restaurants and hotels.

Umezu couldn’t put a price tag on the total economic impact, but he did say that it’s about more than money.

“… More importantly, it just puts a little gold stamp on the island, something to brag about,” he said. “Everybody who’s selling T-shirts, and waiters and waitresses have something to talk about.”

Jennifer Lawrence being a hero

Katniss Everdeen is a hero in real life, too!

The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence saved the day on Monday when she rushed to help an ailing woman in Santa Monica, Calif.

Local police told E! News they received a 911 call at 6:49 p.m. about a woman who had passed out, possibly from alcohol, outside an apartment complex. Although it wasn’t Lawrence who placed the call, police confirmed the Oscar nominee was with the sick woman and stayed with her until paramedics arrived.

Lawrence calmly assisted the woman who was sprawled out on the grass. Wearing flip-flops, gray sweatpants and a tank top, the actress got down on the ground as she kindly waited with the woman in need of medical assistance.

Several police officers came to the rescue as well.

Way to make District 12 (and Hollywood) proud!

Congrats Jennifer! We are so proud of you! Sadly she wasn’t at the awards ceremony live but she did leave a pre-tapped message.

“Thank you, MTV and all the fans, for this award,” she said. “I want to thank [author] Suzanne Collins for creating such an iconic, powerful character in Katniss Everdeen. It’s been such an honor to portray her and have audiences around the world embrace this movie.”

While she appreciated the win, there was one thing she didn’t appreciate: “I can’t eat this,” she joked of her popcorn-shaped prize.

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Huctherson also won Best Fight Performance!
